The New York Stock Exchange today opened its doors to the President of Vietnam, His Excellency Nguyen Minh Triet.
The President was accompanied by H.E. Do Trung Ta, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, H.E. Nguyen Tam Chien, Ambassador to the US , and Mr. Tran Dac Sinh, CEO of Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange, Ltd. (HOSE), who signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the NYSE to strengthen the relationship between the two exchanges and the Vietnamese government.
“The financial and securities markets have an increasingly important role to play in the Vietnamese economy with the participation of a large number of both domestic and foreign investors,” President Nguyen Minh Triet said during his NYSE visit. “For the securities market to develop as an important channel of fund raising for the national economy, Vietnam welcomes all forms of cooperation through information and experience sharing and assistance on the basis of equality and mutual benefits. We look forward to receiving active support and assistance from the US in this area. At the same time, we also hope that stock exchanges of the two countries will become important and effective partners of each other in the near future to build and develop the Vietnamese capital market into a regional financial center for the benefits of both economies.”
“This visit is symbolic of the strengthening economic and business ties between our two countries,” said NYSE Euronext Deputy Chairman and Chair of NYSE Group, Marshall N. Carter. “We applaud the President’s efforts to promote economic reform to make way for more open markets in Vietnam .”
Mr. Carter added that he was looking forward to the day the first Vietnamese company lists on the NYSE.
