The National Stock Exchange Of Lithuania Conducts The 2000th Trading Session

On 15 January 2003, the NSEL conducted its 2000th trading session, during which 864 thousand of shares and 1,177 thousand of Government securities were traded. The total turnover of the trading session stood at LTL 18.2 million. Currently, 46 share issues and 34 Government securities issues are traded at the NSEL. The first trading session took place on 14 September 1993. Its turnover hardly reached LTL 1.63thou, and the trading list consisted of 22 share issues of 19 issuers.

During 2000 trading sessions, over 297thou transactions executed at the NSEL, share volume amounted to 1.76 billion and that of debt securities came to 176 million. Total turnover of those trading sessions came to LTL 12 billion, out of which 15% fell to central market trading. Shares contributed 48% of the total turnover value.

Since the first trading session at the NSEL, the most active trading was carried out with shares of Bankas Hermis AB, the total turnover of which came to over LTL 780 million. Turnover of shares of Vilniaus Bankas AB was the biggest on the central market and made LTL 124 million. The largest block transaction of LTL 265 million was made on 19 September 2002 with shares of the oil refinery Mazeikiu Nafta AB, whereas the largest central market transaction was concluded with shares of Utenos Trikotazas AB and amounted to LTL 9.5 million. The record high turnover of the Government securities of almost LTL 54 million was reached on 2 April 1999.

"We are happy that those 2000 trading sessions at the Exchange went smoothly with a gradual move from trading once a week in 1993 to a daily continuous trading in securities" - said Rimantas Busila, the NSEL President. "With the view to celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the NSEL is looking for the new ways of developing the Lithuanian securities market and opening more opportunities to issuers, investors and brokers.
