In just the three and half months since Nasdaq Japan's opening, a total of 30 companies, representing a broad range of industries, were listed on the Nasdaq Japan Market. This compares to 18 companies listed on the 10-month old Mothers market As of October 11, Nasdaq Japan companies averaged a market capitalization of 38 billion yen; Mothers companies averaged less than 21 billion yen.
As of October 11, Nasdaq Japan total primary-listed market capitalization reached 996 billion yen, more than three times that of Mothers.
12 of the top 25 companies (by market capitalization) going public in Japan between June and September listed on Nasdaq Japan.
Trading Value The value of stocks traded in September reached 128.7 billion yen, more than seven times the value of those traded on Mothers and close to 60 percent of volume on the TSE Section 2.
The number of shares traded in September reached 8.9 million shares, almost six times that of Mothers.
The average NJ issue traded 3.34 billion yen in the 20 trading days ending October 11. The average Mothers issue traded only 700 million yen (21 percent of NJ), and the average JASDAQ security only 507 million (15 percent of NJ).
Turnover / Liquidity Stocks primary-listed on Nasdaq Japan traded .39 percent of their market capitalization each day during the 20 days ending October 11, 2000. Mothers turnover reached only .13 percent among its primary-listed stocks and JASDAQ was only .15percent by the same measure.
