The Montréal Exchange (MX) Reports Another Record Trading Year In 2005 - Total Trading Volume Up 32% Compared With 2004 - MX Options Market Rose By 17% - MX Futures Market Increased By 41% - The Monetary Value Of Derivative Products Traded On Both MX Mark

In 2005, total trading volume at the Montréal Exchange (MX) stood at 28.7 million derivative contracts, an increase of 32 percent compared with 2004.

Year 2005 marks another year of solid growth of activity in MX derivative markets. MX total trading activity since 2001 more than doubled.

MX Futures Market accounts for 63.6 percent of MX total trading activity in 2005. A total of 18.2 million futures contracts were traded during the year, an increase of more than 41 percent compared with 2004.

MX Options Market accounts for 36.4 percent of MX total trading activity in 2005. A total of 10.5 million option contracts were traded during the year, an increase of more than 17 percent over the previous year’s figure.

Monetary value of transactions

The notional value or underlying dollar value of derivative products traded on MX during 2005 reached an all-time high of $C12.4 trillion, a 43 percent increase compared with the previous year.
