The Montreal Exchange Reacts Favourably To Mr. Bachand's Popositions
Date 19/10/1999
In Bangkok for the 39th annual meeting of the International Federation of Stock Exchanges (FIBV), Luc Bertrand, Chairman of the Governing Committee, and Gérard A Lacoste, President and CEO of the Montreal Exchange, have reacted favourably to the remarks made by Raymond Bachand, Chief Executive Officer of the Fonds de solidarité des travailleurs du Québec (FTQ), during a luncheon organised by the Cercle de la finance internationale de Montréal, on October 14, 1999. During this luncheon, Mr. Bachand offered solutions for Montreal to be a veritable financial centre within the parameters of the restructuring agreement entered into between the Canadian exchanges on March 15, 1999.
After discussing the essence of Mr. Bachand's remarks with authorities at the Vancouver Stock Exchange and the Toronto Stock Exchange, the Montreal Exchange looks forward to finding solutions for Quebec-based companies with small capitalisation, under the premises established by Mr. Bachand.
During the annual meeting of the FIBV, Mr. Lacoste was re-elected to the Executive Committee of the FIBV, for a 2-year term. Comprising exchanges from all over the world, the FIBV contributes to the development, support and promotion of organised and regulated securities markets to meet the needs of the world's capital markets in the best interests of its users.
Messrs. Bertrand and Lacoste will return to their respective office on the 25th of October.
