The Markets Run By Bolsas y Mercados Españoles Post New Growth In Trading Volume In April

  • In April trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE reached € 74.88 bn, 37% up on the same month in 2004.
  • Trading on the Latibex market hit a monthly high, posting € 43.8 million.
  • Trading volume in Corporate Debt on AIAF was € 68.31 bn, 64.7% up on the same month in 2004.
  • Trading volume in MEFF in April was 1,850,895 contracts 47% up on the same month in 2004, with an annual increase of 25% in Futures Ibex 35.

Equities

In April trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE amounted to € 74.88 bn, which represents a monthly increase of 20.3% and a 36.6% up relative to April 2004. In this month more than 1.4 million trades were executed, 26.3% up on April 2004.

These figures bring the daily value of trading in April to € 3.56 bn, up 20.3% on the previous month.

Trading on the Latibex market in April exceeded € 43.8 million, which represents a 2.5% increase from the previous monthly high, bringing the trading daily average to over € 2.2 million, the highest value posted by this market. The return on the IBEX 35 index in March was down 2.78% in April bringing the accumulated return on the index from January to - 0.87%. The return on the IBEX 35 with dividends in the same period was 0.10%.

Warrants and Certificates

Trading volumes in April 2005 on the warrants and certificates market came in at € 167.4 million on 26,734 trades, 8% down on the same month last year.

Futures and options

Trading volume in MEFF options and futures in April was 1.85 million contracts, 47% up on the same month last year.

It is worth noting the trading volume on Futuros Ibex 35, which reached 451,687 contracts, 25% up on April 2004. Also important was the performance shown by Futures on single stocks, which posted 424,383 contracts, 103% yoy and Options on the IBEX 35, which reached 361,914 contracts and an annual increase of 100%.

The trading volume on MEFF in the first four months of this year was 11.2 million contracts, up 31% on the same period last year.

Corporate Debt

Corporate Debt trading on AIAF in April reached € 68.31 bn, a 64.7 % increase compared to the same period last year. The accumulated value posted from the beginning of the year was € 272.79 bn, 69.5% up yoy.

New issues in April came in at € 41.19 bn, 40.1% up on the same month in 2004. This brings the figure for the first four months to € 189.40 bn, 30.5% up on the last year.

The outstanding balance at the end of April was € 352.18 bn, 51.9% up on the same period in 2004. Net financing for the first four months of the year came at € 44.15 bn.

SENAF

In April trading volume on the public debt trading platform SENAF was € 14.11 bn.
