It has become increasingly challenging for financial institutions to manage cybersecurity risks, such as those arising from system vulnerabilities, due to the expansion of system development outsourcing and the increased complexity and globalization of supply chains. In addition, there have been cyberattacks involving suspected state actors and frequent ransomware attacks by international hacker groups. Given such circumstances, cyber risk has become one of the top risks for financial institutions, and the mitigation of cyber risks has become a globally significant issue, including for the G7.
The Financial Services Agency (FSA) will invite foreign and domestic governments and financial institutions, including one of the Co-chairs and workstream leads of the G7 Cyber Expert Group (CEG) who led the development of the two G7 CEG Fundamental Elements (Third Party Cyber Risk Management and Ransomware Resilience) published in October 2022, to partake in an active discussion which will focus on the two G7 CEG Fundamental Elements, and the FSA's efforts to further improve the cybersecurity standards of regional financial institutions.
