Marek Dietl, President of the Management Board of the Warsaw Stock Exchange (GPW), took part in The Future of Emerging Europe Summit. This year’s event was held in Brussels under the theme “Towards a Resilient and Sustainable Emerging Europe”. It brought together C-level European experts, including NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana and practitioners in sustainability, innovation and entrepreneurship. Now in its fourth edition, the Summit and Awards are part of the ongoing programme “The Future of Emerging Europe: designed to foster sustainable growth and the implementation of environmental, social and governance practices (ESG) in the region of emerging Europe.
The Summit featured five panel discussions, one dedicated to each of the five dimensions. GPW CEO Marek Dietl took part in the Prosperity session “Redefining and strengthening a post-growth emerging Europe economy”. Moderated by Kasia Madera, Presenter, BBC World News, the session’s experts included Beata Javorcik, Chief Economist, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Professor of Economics, University of Oxford; Oleg Krot, Managing Partner, TECHIIA Holding; and Jurica Novak, Managing Partner, Central Europe, McKinsey & Company.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has brought into view the competitive advantage of emerging Europe: people. Historically, people in our part of Europe have developed the ability to adapt to continuous change. This is why emerging Europe has lived up to challenges faced by the entire world, including ESG and wide-range digitalisation. The need to “build back better” in the post-pandemic reality is high on the European capital market’s agenda,” said GPW CEO Marek Dietl.
The Summit was accompanied by an awards ceremony with 21 categories which acknowledge those who contributed the most to the region’s sustainable growth in 2020. GPW was the partner of three award categories from the Prosperity pillar:
- Global Champion of the Year;
- Foreign Investor of the Year;
- Business-Friendly City of the Year.
Emerging Europe is an international think tank focusing on economic and social development of Central and Eastern Europe.
