Commenting on the results The Lord Bagri CBE, chairman of the Exchange said: "With the first stage of the election process completed I would like to congratulate those who have been selected and welcome them. Already we can see that we shall have a blend of experience from our old board and new members to the board. That augurs well for the continued progression of the world's premier non-ferrous metals futures market.
" The vote means that we have clearly elected two ring dealing directors, two associate broker clearing directors and the trade director. A tie for the third ring dealing director and the third associate broker clearing director means that a further vote will be necessary. The arrangements for this are being notified separately.
" I look forward to having all the elected members to the board in place soon so that we may complete the transition process and be fully prepared for our new beginning on 1 January 2001.
" These are exciting times at the LME as we introduce our screen trading capability and complete our demutualisation. We have much to do in the months ahead to reinforce our world position and develop further. I look forward to taking this work forward with the new board."
