The Election Of New Chairman Of The Taiwan Futures Exchange

Kenneth Kao, former chairman of the Taiwan Securities Depository Company (TSDC), has been elected chairman of the Taiwan Futures Exchange (TAIFEX) at the board meeting on July 25. The term of office is 3 years.

Chairman Kao is familiar with the business of TAIFEX. He was designated leader of the team, organized by TSDC, responsible for developing the futures clearing system for TAIFEX. Currently, he is also the chairman of the task force for developing options trading system. At the same time, he involves in the Futures Market Promotion Committee coordinated by the Securities and Futures Commission as a prominent committee member.

Before he chaired the board of TSDC, Chairman Kao was the president of the institute. At the position, he initiated advanced technology to establish the central depository system and the book entry system, which was widely recognized a milestone of the securities market of Taiwan.

The TAIFEX was inaugurated in July 1998 with a current membership of over 62 companies. Products include the Taiwan Stock Exchange Capitalization Weighted Stock Index (TAIEX) Futures and the Electronic Sector and the Banking/Insurance Sector Indices Futures. The Exchange is devoting all efforts to launch options products in the near future.
