The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) Monthly Statistical Report October 2013

Total number of listed companies on the main market amounted to 211 at the end of October 2013. Meanwhile, the number of listed companies on Nilex reached 23 at the end of the month.

Two companies were listed on the main market this month.

Total number of trading days in October 2013 amounted to 18 days with a total value traded of US$ 1,621.45 million (LE LE 11,154.41 million).

Value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 1,550.06   million (LE 10,663.31 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 91.61%, 8.39% and 0%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 49.8 million (LE 342.57 million), which represents 3.07% of total value traded for the month.  Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 21.59 million (LE 148.53 million) during the month.

This is in comparison to September 2013 when a total value traded of US$ 2,144.7 million (LE 14,759 million). Value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 1,968.61 million (LE 13,547.19 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 68.78%, 31.22% and 0%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 168.26 million (LE 1,157.9 million), which represents 7.85% of total value traded for the month. Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 7.84 million (LE 53.92 million) during the month.

Total volume traded of the main market for this month reached 2,683.91 million securities. Meanwhile, the total volume traded of the OTC market has reached 38 million securities. Nilex has recorded a trading volume of 57.27 million securities

During October 2013, 487,544 transactions were concluded with an average of 27,086 trades per day, as opposed to 519,883 transactions were concluded with an average of 23,631 trades per day in September 2013

EGX 30 index, the official market index, witnessed an increase of 9.99% in October 2013 to reach 6,181.86 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 8.53% 

Meanwhile, EGX 70 price index witnessed an increase of 6.35% in October 2013 to reach 516.58 points and witnessed a YoY decline of -3.56%

Moreover, EGX 100 price index witnessed an increase of 6.87% in October 2013 to reach 867 points and witnessed a YoY decline of -1.39 %.

Moreover, EGX 20 Capped index witnessed an increase of 9.87% in October 2013 to reach 7,239.66 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 8.57 %.

Additionally, the Dow Jones EGX Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed an increase of 9.62 % in October, to close at 1,349.42 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 7.56 %.

On the other hand, the S&P/EGX ESG index witnessed an increase of 7.97% in October, to close at 1,011 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 2.47 %.

The ten most active stocks in the main market represented 65.82% of total traded shares' volume and 48.79% of total traded shares' value for this month.

During the month of October, the top five gainers, on the main market, were (in descending order of price change) Egyptian Real Estate Group Bearer Shares (85.11%), Assiut Islamic Trading (74.55%), Alexandria Flour Mills 65.22%, Orascom Development Holding (AG) (62.14%), Arab Pharmaceuticals (59.85%)

The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) The Arab Dairy Products Co. ARAB DAIRY (-9.99%), El Nasr For Manufacturing Agricultural Crops (-5.28%) Development & Engineering Consultants (-5.26%), Guezira Hotels & Tourism (-4.08%), Mohandes Insurance (-3.77%)

Total market capitalization of shares in the main market amounted to US$ 58.49  (LE 402.34 billion), as of end of October 2013 compared to US$ 54.89  billion (LE 377.73 billion) in September 2013, representing an increase of 6.56%. Meanwhile, Market capitalization for the companies listed on Nilex has reached US$ 182.56 million (LE 1,255.86 million) at the end of October 2013.

The bond capitalization recorded US$ 653.134 million (LE 4.49 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 48.66 billion (LE 334.714 billion) for government bonds at the end of October 2013 (Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System). Meanwhile, the market capitalization of the Public Juristic Entities bonds amounted to US$ 726.82 million (LE 5 billion) at the end of October 2013.

In October 2013, foreign investors participated with 21.71% of the value traded of the main market, with a net inflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 49.612 million (LE 341.294 million).
