The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) Monthly Statistical Report October 2011

Total number of listed companies on the main market amounted to 214 at the end of October 2011. Meanwhile, the number of listed companies on Nilex reached 20 at the end of October 2011.

There were no new listed companies on the Main market this month. Meanwhile, one company was listed on Nilex, with a total capital of US$ 2.52 million (LE 15 million).

Total number of trading days in October 2011 amounted to 21 days with a total value traded of US$ 1,654.37 million (LE 9,875.43 million). Value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 1,402.67 million (LE 8,372.93 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 65.37%, 34.63% and 0%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 249.21 million (LE 1,487.63 million), which represents 15.06% of total value traded for the month. Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 2.49 million (LE 14.86 million) during the month.

This is in comparison to September 2011, when value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 1,569.69 million (LE 9,364.29 million), of which shares represented 89.46%, bonds 10.54% and funds 0%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to US$ 120.59 million (LE 719.38 million) i.e. 7.13% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading), which reached US$ 1,692.22 million (LE 10,095.27 million). Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 1.94 million (LE 11.59 million) during the month.

Total volume traded of the main market for this month reached 1,325.91 million securities. Meanwhile, the total volume traded of the OTC market has reached 80.94 million securities. Nilex has recorded a trading volume of 3.29 million securities.

During October 2011, 418,935 transactions were concluded with an average of 19,949 trades per day, as opposed to 423,574 transactions and an average of 21,179 trades per day in September 2011.

EGX 30 index, the official market index, witnessed a increase of 7.59% in October 2011 to reach 4,451.40 points and witnessed a YoY decrease of 33.27%.

Meanwhile, EGX 70 price index witnessed an increase of 6.16% in October 2011 to reach 486.65 points and witnessed a YoY decline of  27.17%.

Moreover, EGX 100 price index witnessed a increase of 8.06% in October 2011 to reach 764.66 points and witnessed a YoY decrease of 29.87 %.

Additionally, the Dow Jones EGX Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed an increase of 7.52% in October, to close at 990.20 points on 31/10/2011 and witnessed a YoY decrease of 30.75 %.

On the other hand, the S&P/EGX ESG index witnessed an increase of 5.70% in October, to close at 703.52 points and witnessed a YoY decrease of 34.49%.

The ten most active stocks in the main market represented 51.61% of the total value & 62.90% of the total volume of shares traded for the month.

During the month of September, the top five gainers, on the main market, were (in descending order of price change) Cairo Development and Investment (+42.75%), Egyptian Real Estate Group Bearer Shares (+33.21%), Raya Holding for Technology and Communications (+29.46%), Egyptians Abroad for Investment & Development (+24.75%) and Gharbia Islamic Housing Development (+23.62%).

The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) Arab Pharmaceuticals (-16.61%), The Arab Dairy Products Co. ARAB DAIRY (-15.83%), Saudi Egyptian Investment & Finance (-15.59%), Golden Pyramids Plaza (-14.75%) and Misr Hotels (-10.71%).

Total market capitalization of shares in the main market amounted to US$ 55.96 billion (LE 334.05 billion) as of end of October 2011 compared to US$ 53.51 billion (LE 319.25 billion) in September 2011, representing an increase of 4.6%. Meanwhile, Market capitalization for the companies listed on Nilex has reached US$ 177.99 million (LE 1,062.46 million) at the end of October 2011.

The bond capitalization recorded US$ 1.15 billion (LE 6.87 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 36.25 billion (LE 216.40 billion) for government bonds at the end of October 2011 (Including Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System). Meanwhile, the market capitalization of the Public Juristic Entities bonds amounted to US$ 837.62 million (LE 5 billion) at the end of October 2011.

In September 2011, foreign investors participated with 23.70% of the value traded of the main market, with a net inflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 23.7 million (LE 141.7 million).
