Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 773.72 million (LE 4,255.45 million), which represents 22% of total value traded for the month.
This is in comparison to September 2008, when value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 4,093.44 million (LE 22,472.99 million), of which shares represented 92.92%, bonds 7.08% and funds 0.00%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to US$ 561.25 million (LE 3,081.25 million) i.e. 12% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached US$ 4,654.69 million (LE 25,554.24 million).
Total volume traded of listed securities market for this month reached 1,287.85 million securities.
During October 2008, 722,073 transactions were concluded with an average of 40,115 trades per day, as opposed to 815,261 transactions and an average of 38,822 trades per day in September 2008.
Indices
CASE 30 price index, the official market index, witnessed a 33.19% decrease in October 2008 to reach 4716.25 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 49.78%.
Likewise, the Dow Jones CASE Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed a 31.79% decrease in October, to close at 1010.04 points 30/10/2008, and a 49.48% decrease on a YoY basis.

During the month of October, the top five gainers, on the official EGX market, were (in descending order of price change) B-Tech (+73%), Misr Hotels (+25%), Egyptian Company for Mobile Services (MobiNil) (+2%), Egyptian Chemical Industries (Kima) (+2%) and Misr Cement (Qena) (+1%).
The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) El Nasr for Manufacturing Agricultural Crops (-58%), South Cairo & Giza Mills & Bakeries (-58%), International Co for Investment & Development (-56%), GB Auto (-56%) and Egyptian Iron & Steel (-55%).
Market Capitalization
Total market capitalization of shares amounted to US$ 86 billion (LE 475.4 billion) as of end of October 2008 compared to US$ 113.3 billion (LE 622.2 billion) in September 2008, representing a 23.6% decrease.
The bond capitalization recorded US$ 838 million (LE 4.6 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 14 billion (LE 77 billion) for government bonds at the end of October 2008 (Including Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System).
