The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) Monthly Statistical Report March 2014

Total number of listed companies on the main market amounted to 213 at the end of March 2014. Meanwhile, the number of listed companies on Nilex reached 24 at the end of the month.

Total number of trading days in March 2014 amounted to 22 days with a total value traded of US$ 4,624.35 million (LE 32,174 million.).

Value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 4,212.47 million (LE 29,308 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 82.71%, 17.29% and 0%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 397.80 million (LE 2,768 million), which represents 8.60% of total value traded for the month.  Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 14.08 million (LE 97.94 million) during the month.

Total number of trading days in February 2014 amounted to 20 days with a total value traded of US$ 3,870.79 million (LE 26,904 million.).

Value traded of the main market amounted to US$3,698.59 million (LE 25,708 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 72.02%, 27.98% and 0%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 154.27 million (LE 1,072 million), which represents 3.99% of total value traded for the month.  Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 17.90 million (LE 124.43 million) during the month.

Total volume traded of the main market for this month reached 6,867 million securities. Meanwhile, the total volume traded of the OTC market has reached 131.11 million securities. Nilex has recorded a trading volume of 29.68 million securities.

During March 2014, 888,816 transactions were concluded with an average of 40,400 trades per day, as opposed to 806,549 transactions were concluded with an average of 40,327 trades per day, during February 2014

EGX 30 index, the official market index, witnessed a decline by 3.97% in March 2014 to reach 7,805.03 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 53.08% 

Meanwhile, EGX 70 price index witnessed a decline of 8.57% in March 2014 to reach 595.38 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 34.86%

Moreover, EGX 100 price index witnessed a decline by 6.95% in March 2014 to reach 1,041.26 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 41.23 %.

Moreover, EGX 20 Capped index witnessed a decline by 3.71% in March 2014 to reach 9,403.21 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 60.56%.

Additionally, the Dow Jones EGX Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed a decline by 3.32% in March 2014, to close at 1,655.45 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 44.80%.

On the other hand, the S&P/EGX ESG index witnessed a decline by 3.06% in March 2014, to close at 1,379.31 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 64.38%.

The ten most active stocks in the main market represented 75.45% of total traded shares' volume and 56.02 % of total traded shares' value for this month.

During the month of March, the top five gainers, on the main market, were (in descending order of price change) Egyptian Arabian (cmar) Securities Brokerage EAC (48.12%), Belton Financial Holding (45.90%), Prime Holding (43.80%), Misr Chemical Industries (27.67%), Reacap Financial Investments (23.42%)

The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) Marsa Marsa Alam For Tourism Development (-34.44 %), El Wadi Co. For Touristic Investment (-32.18%) Ceramic & Porcelain (-29.21%), General Company For Land Reclamation, Development & Reconstruction (-28.01%), Grand Investment Capital (-25.59%)

Total market capitalization of shares in the main market amounted to US$ 67.484 (LE 469.521 billion), as of end of March 2014 compared to US$ 70.76 (LE 491.85 billion) in February 2014, representing a decline by -4.54 %. Meanwhile, Market capitalization for the companies listed on Nilex has reached US$ 178.60 million (LE 1,242.613 million) at the end of March 2014.

The bond capitalization recorded US$ 634.03 million (LE 4.41 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 58.03 billion (LE 403.76 billion) for government bonds at the end of March 2014 (Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System). Meanwhile, the market capitalization of the Public Juristic Entities bonds amounted to US$ 718.65 million (LE 5 billion) at the end of March 2014.

In March 2014, foreign investors participated with 16.22% of the value traded of the main market, with a net inflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 68.93 million (LE 479.55 million).
