The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) Monthly Statistical Report March 2013

Listing

Total number of listed companies on the main market amounted to 211 at the end of March 2013. Meanwhile, the number of listed companies on Nilex reached 21 at the end of the month.

 

There were no new listed companies this month.

Turnover

Total number of trading days in March 2013 amounted to 21 days with a total value traded of US$ 4,042.28 million (LE 27,459.64 million). Value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 3,843.44 million (LE 26,108.84 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 86.56%, 13.44% and 0%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 196.46 million (LE 1,334.54 million), which represents 4.86% of total value traded for the month. Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 2.39 million (LE 16.25 million) during the month.

 

This is in comparison to February 2013, when value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 1,742.77 million (LE 11,729.52 million), of which shares represented 59.67%, bonds 40.33% and funds 0%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to US$ 101.34 million (LE 682.08 million), i.e. 5.49% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading), which reached US$ 1,847.51 million (LE 12,434.51 million). Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 3.40 million (LE 22.91 million) during the month.

 

Total volume traded of the main market for this month reached 2,297.97 million securities. Meanwhile, the total volume traded of the OTC market has reached 39.39 million securities. Nilex has recorded a trading volume of 5.81 million securities.

 

During March 2013, 341,098 transactions were concluded with an average of 16,243 trades per day, as opposed to 414,194 transactions and an average of 20,710 trades per day in February 2013.

 

Indices

EGX 30 index, the official market index, witnessed a decline of 7.12% in March 2013 to reach 5098.82 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 1.60%.

Meanwhile, EGX 70 price index witnessed a decrease of 6.31% in March 2013 to reach 441.47 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 2.55%.

Moreover, EGX 100 price index witnessed a decrease of 7.44% in March 2013 to reach 737.3 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 6.85%.

Moreover, EGX 20 Capped index witnessed a decline of 8.82% in March 2013 to reach 5856.47 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 0.74%.

Additionally, the Dow Jones EGX Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed a decline of 6.05% in March, to close at 1143.29 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 2.30%.

On the other hand, the S&P/EGX ESG index witnessed a decline of 6.59% in March, to close at 839.08 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 7.49%.

Price Movements of Selected Shares

The ten most active stocks in the main market represented 89.27% of the total value & 79.06% of the total volume of shares traded for the month.

During the month of March, the top five gainers, on the main market, were (in descending order of price change) Egyptian Contracting (Mokhtar Ibrahim) (+35.57%), Orascom Telecom Media and Technology Holding (+14.29%), Misr Conditioning (Miraco) (+12.17%), Suez Bags (+12.08%) and El Kahera El Watania Investment (+10.03%).

The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) Atlas for Land Reclamation and Agricultural Processing (-36.29%), Marsa Marsa Alam for Tourism Development (-24.90%), North Africa Co. for Real Estate Investment (-24.45%), Egyptians for Investment & Urban Development (-24.03%) and National Societe Generale Bank (NSGB) (-21%).

Market Capitalization

Total market capitalization of shares in the main market amounted to US$ 52.25 billion (LE 354.95 billion) as of end of March 2013 compared to US$ 55.60 billion (LE 374.20 billion) in February 2013, representing a decline of 5.1%. Meanwhile, Market capitalization for the companies listed on Nilex has reached US$ 148.43 million (LE 1.01 billion) at the end of March 2013.

 

The bond capitalization recorded US$ 681.64 million (LE 4.63 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 46.02 billion (LE 312.65 billion) for government bonds at the end of March 2013 (Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System). Meanwhile, the market capitalization of the Public Juristic Entities bonds amounted to US$ 736.04 million (LE 5 billion) at the end of March 2013.

Foreign Participation

In March 2013, foreign investors participated with 68.52% of the value traded of the main market, with a net inflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 217.64 million (LE 1.48 billion).

 

Worth mentioning that this month has witnessed the execution of the 97% acquisition of National Societe Generale Bank (NSGB) by Qatar National Bank, in a deal worth LE 16.6 billion on 28 March 2013.
