The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) Monthly Statistical Report January 2014

Total number of listed companies on the main market amounted to 212 at the end of January 2014. Meanwhile, the number of listed companies on Nilex reached 24 at the end of the month.

 

No new companies were listed this month

 

Total number of trading days in January 2014 amounted to 19 days with a total value traded of US$ 2,750.41 million (LE 19,120 million.).

Value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 2,557.36 million (LE 17,778 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 80.93%, 19.07% and 0%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 175.64 million (LE 1,221 million), which represents 6.39% of total value traded for the month.  Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 17.26 million (LE 119.961 million) during the month.

 

Total number of trading days in December 2013 amounted to 23 days with a total value traded of US$ 2,222.19 million (LE 15,419 million.).

Value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 1,911.96 million (LE 13,266 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 67.41%, 32.59% and 0%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 275.92 million (LE 1,914 million), which represents 12.42% of total value traded for the month.  Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 34.311 million (LE 238.068 million) during the month.

 

 

Total volume traded of the main market for this month reached 5,623 million securities. Meanwhile, the total volume traded of the OTC market has reached 135.021 million securities. Nilex has recorded a trading volume of 33.34 million securities.

 

During January 2014, 643,026 transactions were concluded with an average of 33,843 trades per day, as opposed to 494,303 transactions were concluded with an average of 21,491 trades per day, during December 2013

 

EGX 30 index, the official market index, witnessed an increase of 9.17% in January 2014 to reach 7,405.25 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 32.08% 

Meanwhile, EGX 70 price index witnessed an increase of 7.90% in January 2014 to reach 584.62 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 25.66%

Moreover, EGX 100 price index witnessed an increase of 7.46% in January 2014 to reach 992.20 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 25.54 %.

Moreover, EGX 20 Capped index witnessed an increase of 11.60% in January 2014 to reach 8,816.10 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 37.24 %.

Additionally, the Dow Jones EGX Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed an increase of 7.30% in January 2014, to close at 1,584.62 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 27.23 %.

On the other hand, the S&P/EGX ESG index witnessed an increase of 17.20 % in January 2014, to close at 1,245.12 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 35.99 %.

The ten most active stocks in the main market represented 76.09 % of total traded shares' volume and 54.65 % of total traded shares' value for this month.

During the month of January, the top five gainers, on the main market, were (in descending order of price change) Golden Coast Company (110.00%), Misr National Steel - Ataqa (70.06%), International Agricultural Products (63.17%), Amer Group Holding (57.53%), Orascom Telecom Media And Technology Holding (50.65%)

The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) Marsa Marsa Alam For Tourism Development (-21.93%), Tourism Urbanization (-18.96%) Arab Ceramics (Aracemco) (-12.29%), The Arab Dairy Products Co. ARAB DAIRY (-10.58%), Golden Textiles & Clothes Wool (-10.37%)

Total market capitalization of shares in the main market amounted to US$ 64.99 (LE 451.77 billion), as of end of January 2014 compared to US$ 61.51 (LE 426.27 billion) in December 2013, representing an increase of 5.98%. Meanwhile, Market capitalization for the companies listed on Nilex has reached US$ 200.28 million (LE 1,392.306 million) at the end of January 2014.

 

The bond capitalization recorded US$ 630.621 million (LE 4.38 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 52.57 billion (LE 365.472 billion) for government bonds at the end of January 2014 (Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System). Meanwhile, the market capitalization of the Public Juristic Entities bonds amounted to US$ 719.25 million (LE 5 billion) at the end of January 2014.

In January 2014, foreign investors participated with 13.11% of the value traded of the main market, with a net inflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 1.89 million (LE 13.11 million).
