The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) Monthly Statistical Report December 2015

Total number of listed companies on the main market amounted to 221 at the end of December 2015. Meanwhile, the number of listed companies on Nilex reached 31 at the end of the month.

One company was listed on Nilex this month.

Total number of trading days in December 2015 amounted to 22 days, with a total value traded of US$ 2,086.94 million (LE 16,132.29 million). Value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 1,870.78 million (LE 14,461.32 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 77.48%, 22.52% and 0%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 206.95 million (LE 1,599.77 million), which represents 9.92% of total value traded for the month. Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 9.21 million (LE 71.2 million) during the month.

This is in comparison to November 2015, when value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 1,949.90 million (LE 15,072.90 million), of which shares represented 66.72%, bonds 33.28% and funds 0%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to US$ 554.90 million (LE 4,289.40 million), i.e. 22.05% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading), which reached US$ 2,516.08 million (LE 19,449.58 million). Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 11.29 million (LE 87.28 million) during the month.

Total volume traded of the main market for this month reached 5,770.62 million securities. Meanwhile, the total volume traded of the OTC market has reached 130.56 million securities. Nilex has recorded a trading volume of 39.72 million securities.

During December 2015, 450,219 transactions were concluded with an average of 20,465 trades per day, as opposed to 396,658 transactions were concluded with an average of 18,030 trades per day, during November 2015.

EGX 30 index, the official market index, witnessed an increase of 10.22% in December 2015, to close at 7006.01 points and witnessed a YoY a decline of 21.52%. 

Meanwhile, EGX 70 price index witnessed an increase of 9.93% in December 2015, to close at 378.69 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 33.03%.

Moreover, EGX 100 price index witnessed an increase of 7.42% in December 2015, to close at 790.57 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 27.50%.

Moreover, EGX 20 Capped index witnessed an increase of 14.66% in December 2015, to close at 7074.59 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 29.47%.

Additionally, the Dow Jones EGX Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed an increase of 10.49% in December 2015, to close at 1461.36 points and witnessed a YoY a decline of 22.83%.

On the other hand, the S&P/EGX ESG index witnessed an increase of 8.43% in December 2015, to close at 1010.61 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 32.30%.

From another perspective, Nile index witnessed a decline of 1.63% in December 2015, to close at 583.23 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 22.09%.

The ten most active stocks in the main market represented 79.95% of total traded shares' volume and 59.27% of total traded shares' value for this month.

During the month of December the top five gainers, on the main market, were (in descending order of price change) Cairo Oils & Soap (39.56%), Cairo Development and Investment (35.06%), Extracted Oils (35%), Misr Oils & Soap (32.98%) and Heliopolis Housing (32.84%).

The top five losers, on the main market, were (in ascending order of price change) Tourism Urbanization (-18.76%), Minapharm Pharmaceuticals (-16.8%), Modern Shorouk Printing & Packaging (-13.33%), TransOceans Tours (-12.5%) and Delta For Printing & Packaging (-12.46%).

Total market capitalization of shares in the main market amounted to US$ 55.6 billion (LE 429.79 billion), as of end of December 2015 compared to US$ 53.43 billion (LE 413 billion) in November 2015, representing an increase of 4.1%. Meanwhile, Market capitalization for the companies listed on Nilex has reached US$ 133.10 million (LE 1.03 billion) at the end of December 2015.

In December 2015, foreign investors participated with 17.03% of the value traded of the main market, with a net outflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 76.08 million (LE 588.14 million).
