Total number of listed companies on EGX in December 2009 decreased to 306 companies as opposed to 314 in the previous month.
Two new listed companies were listed this month, with a total capitalization of LE 1.1 billion.
Turnover
Total number of trading days in December 2009 amounted to 23 days with a total value traded of US$ 6,215.94 million (LE 34,125.52 million). Value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 5,214.76 million (LE 28,629.05 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 88.48%, 11.52% and 0.00%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 1,001.17 million (LE 5,496.46 million), which represents 16% of total value traded for the month.This is in comparison to November 2009, when value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 6,143.05 million (LE 33,602.48 million), of which shares represented 92.74%, bonds 7.26% and funds 0.00%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to US$ 14,117.22 million (LE 77,221.19 million) i.e. 70% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading), which reached US$ 20,260.27 million (LE 110,823.67 million). Worth mentioning that this month has witnessed the execution of a deal on Lafarge Building Materials Holding on the OTC market, with a total volume of 1.3 million shares worth US$ 13 billion (LE 71 billion).
Total volume traded of listed securities market for this month reached 1,679.45 million securities.
During December 2009, 846,609 transactions were concluded with an average of 36,809 trades per day, as opposed to 849,243 transactions and an average of 42,462 trades per day in November 2009.
Indices
EGX 30 index, the official market index, witnessed a 5.80% increase in December 2009 to reach 6208.77 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 35.08%.
Meanwhile, EGX 70 price index witnessed a 2.40% decrease in December 2009 to reach 642.93 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 33.32%.
Moreover, EGX 100 price index witnessed a 0.66% increase in December 2009 to reach 1059.33 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 35.67%.
Additionally, the Dow Jones EGX Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed a 6.60% increase in December, to close at 1314.33 points on 31/12/2009, and a 34.66% increase on a YoY basis.

During the month of December, the top five gainers, on the official EGX market, were (in descending order of price change) Samcrete Misr - Preferred Shares (+1262 %), Samcrete Misr (+1262 %), Citadel Capital - Common Shares (+67.8 %), Grand Capital (+59%) and International Company For Leasing (IncoLEASE) (+33%).
The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) National Navigation (-67%), Pens & Plastic Industries (Sicep) (-65%), National Investment & Reconstruction (-57%), Delta Rasmala Securities (-47%), Egyptian Sponge (-47%).
Market Capitalization
Total market capitalization of shares amounted to US$ 91 billion (LE 499.6 billion) as of end of December 2009 compared to US$ 88.9 billion (LE 486.4 billion) in November 2009, representing an increase of 2.7%.
The bond capitalization recorded US$ 522.8 million (LE 2.9 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 22.8 billion (LE 125.3 billion) for government bonds at the end of December 2009 (Including Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System).
Foreign Participation
In December 2009, foreign investors participated with 24.87% of the total market value traded, with a net inflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 113 million (LE 621 million).
