Listing

Total number of listed companies on the main market amounted to 212 at the end of April 2012. Meanwhile, the number of listed companies on Nilex reached 20 at the end of April 2012.

There were no new listed companies this month.

Turnover

Total number of trading days in April 2012 amounted to 19 days with a total value traded of US$ 1,982.54 million (LE 11,986.06 million). Value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 1,830.89 million (LE 11,069.17 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 63.23%, 36.77% and 0%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 149.53 million (LE 904.05 million), which represents 7.54% of total value traded for the month. Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 2.12 million (LE 12.84 million) during the month.

This is in comparison to March 2012, when value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 2,304.23 million (LE 13,918.45 million), of which shares represented 78.76%, bonds 21.24% and funds 0%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to US$ 248.54 million (LE 1,501.30 million), i.e. 9.72% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading), which reached US$ 2,557.92 million (LE 15,450.83 million).   Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 5.15 million (LE 31.09 million) during the month.

Total volume traded of the main market for this month reached 1,885.69 million securities. Meanwhile, the total volume traded of the OTC market has reached 46.35 million securities. Nilex has recorded a trading volume of 2.58 million securities.

During April 2012, 393,979 transactions were concluded with an average of 20,736 trades per day, as opposed to 648,224 transactions and an average of 30,868 trades per day in March 2012.

Indices

EGX 30 index, the official market index, witnessed a decline of 1.46% in April 2012 to reach 4945.21 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 1.17%.

Meanwhile, EGX 70 price index witnessed a decline of 4.50% in April 2012 to reach 432.62 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 27.49%.

Moreover, EGX 100 price index witnessed a decline of 1.63% in April 2012 to reach 778.62 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 15.94%.

Moreover, EGX 20 Capped index witnessed an increase of 0.11% in April 2012 to reach 5819.91 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 5.15%.

Additionally, the Dow Jones EGX Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed a decline of 2.19% in April, to close at 1093.08 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 1.32%.

On the other hand, the S&P/EGX ESG index witnessed a decline of 2.56% in April, to close at 760.57 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 13.05%.

Price Movements of Selected Shares

The ten most active stocks in the main market represented 68.11% of the total value & 76.89% of the total volume of shares traded for the month.

During the month of April, the top five gainers, on the main market, were (in descending order of price change) Guezira Hotels & Tourism (+26.88%), Paper Middle East (Simo) (+23.52%), Housing & Development Bank (+14.70%), El Nasr Transformers (El Maco) (+11.67%) and Giza General Contracting (+11.09%).

The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) Misr Hotels (-23.69%), Orascom Telecom Holding (OT) (-17.36%), Orascom Development Holding (AG) (-16.80%), General Company for Land Reclamation, Development & Reconstruction (-16.10%) and Reacap Financial Investments (-15.18%).

Total market capitalization of shares in the main market amounted to US$ 58.31 billion (LE 352.51 billion) as of end of April 2012 compared to US$ 60.01 billion (LE 362.47 billion) in March 2012, representing a decline of 2.75%. Meanwhile, Market capitalization for the companies listed on Nilex has reached US$ 191.70 million (LE 1.16 billion) at the end of April 2012.

The bond capitalization recorded US$ 0.80 billion (LE 4.84 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 40.52 billion (LE 245 billion) for government bonds at the end of April 2012 (Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System). Meanwhile, the market capitalization of the Public Juristic Entities bonds amounted to US$ 827.02 million (LE 5 billion) at the end of April 2012.

Foreign Participation

In April 2012, foreign investors participated with 22.23% of the value traded of the main market, with a net outflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 106.41 million (LE 643.33 million).
