The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) Announces The Semi-Annual Review Of Its Market Indices

The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) announces that the following semi-annual indices review changes will become effective on Sunday, 2 February 2025.  

EGX30 index will witness a change in 6 companies, while EGX70 EWI will have a change in 17 companies; 6 of which will join EGX30. In addition, EGX100 EWI will witness a change of 14 companies.

The results of the index review came in light of the recent amendments in EGX 30 index inclusion criteria as well as EGX70 EWI index eligibility criteria for newly listed companies/IPOs.  The most notable changes for the EGX30 index include: a minimum average daily trading value of 0.1% of the average daily trading value of all stocks during the review period, a minimum turnover rate of 10% for free-floating shares during the review period, along with a minimum market capitalization weighted by free-floating shares of no less than the median of the market capitalization weighted by free-floating shares for the top 80 companies in terms of daily average trading value.

As for EGX70 EWI index, the Egyptian Exchange has reviewed the eligibility criteria for the newly listed companies/IPOs as well as the companies migrating from the SMEs board to the main market, to include a minimum average daily number of investors, a minimum average daily trading value as well as a minimum number of trading days, to ensure the inclusion of highly liquid stocks.   Additionally, qualitative criteria were unified for EGX indices.

EGX33 Shariah index, which includes the most compliant companies with Shariah among the highly liquid companies, witnessed a change in 7 companies.

EGX conducts the semi-annual rebalance for its indices at the beginning of February and August of every year, whereby constituents are reviewed according to their respective methodologies.

As for the treasury bonds index, 10 issues of treasury bonds were added, thus bringing the total number of bonds in the index to 16 issues. Worth mentioning that the Egyptian Exchange conducts a monthly review of treasury bond indices, according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the indices methodology.
