As part of the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) ongoing efforts to develop its market indices and enhance their efficiency, EGX has revised the methodology of Tamayuz Index; the SMEs market Index, and renamed it “Tamayuz All-Share EWI”, to provide a more comprehensive tool for measuring the performance of companies listed on the Egyptian SMEs market.
Under its revised methodology, the index aims to provide a benchmark that investors and asset managers can rely on to measure the performance of the SMEs market, taking into account the characteristics of companies listed on this market and applying eligibility criteria that ensure having constituent companies that meet the required standards. These include compliance with the rules and regulations governing the market, as well as limiting index inclusion to companies whose shares were traded during the review period, thereby ensuring that the index remains more closely aligned with actual market trading activity.
The index will be calculated using an Equally Weighted mechanism, allowing for balanced representation of its constituents and limiting the impact of differences in company size on their respective weights within the index.
As part of the development of the index’s periodic review process, the effective dates of periodic review results have been revised to the first business day of June and December each year, instead of the first business day of May and November. The June review will cover the period from the beginning of November to the end of April, while the December review will cover the period from the beginning of May to the end of October.
In addition, partial reviews will be conducted at the end of February and August each year. These reviews will be limited to reviewing the Adjustment Weight Factor (AWF) of the index constituents, with no changes to the constituent companies. The results of these partial reviews will take effect on the first business day of March and September each year, respectively.
The Tamayuz All-Share EWI will be launched on 1 December 2026, with historical values calculated in accordance with the revised methodology using a designated base date. Meanwhile, the current Tamayuz Index will continue to be calculated using its current constituents till the end of November 2026. No periodic review of its constituents will be conducted in November 2026; however, the Adjustment Weight Factor (AWF) of its constituents will be recalculated at the end of October 2026 and applied as of 1 November 2026 to ensure continued compliance with the index capping rules during the remaining period of its calculation.
