The Italian Investor Conference of New York was held on 3 and 4 April at the Hotel Westin Times Square and gave American investors and analysts the opportunity to meet 27 Blue Chip companies.
The event was held under the aegis of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Directorate General for Economic Cooperation) partnered with four leading banks: Banca IMI, Intermonte, Mediobanca and Morgan Stanley.
The schedule of the Conference included a series of one–to-one meetings between the management of the 27 Blue Chip companies and the financial community and opportunities for more in-depth discussion, with four round tables, on subjects that are particularly topical and relevant to the Italian economy. The management of the companies attending the conference also participated in the round tables.
The Italian Investor Conference kicked off on 3 April at 8:30am with the following speakers: Massimo Capuano, Chief Executive Officer of Borsa Italiana, Giandomenico Magliano, Director General for Economic Cooperation for the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Lodovico Rosnati, Head of the Blue Chip Segment of Borsa Italiana.
The first roundtable followed on “The Italian Financial Services Industry”; taking part in this roundtable were: Andrea Battista (Cattolica Assicurazioni), Alberto Nagel (Mediobanca), Sandro Salvati (Toro) and Antonio Vigni (Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena); Guglielmo Zadra of Morgan Stanley will act as moderator.
On the same morning, Tod’s, Safilo, Valentino Fashion Group and Toro gave their presentations.
The second roundtable on “Global Italian Brands” was held in the afternoon of 3 April, at 2pm; joining in the discussion were: Silvano Cassano (Benetton Group), Michele Norsa (Valentino Fashion Group), Michele Preda (Marazzi Group), Roberto Vedovotto (Safilo Group) and Enzo Visone (Campari); Chiara Rotelli of Mediobanca acted as moderator.
This session was followed by the presentations of Banca Italease, Cattolica Assicurazioni and ASM.
The third roundtable on “Italy competing on the International Markets” was held on Tuesday 4 April, at 8.30am, and attending this session were: Enrico Bondi (Parmalat), Drago Alberto Cerchiai (Sorin), Vittorio Colao (RCS Mediagroup), Alessandro Garrone (ERG), Sergio Marchionne (Fiat), Alessandro Pansa (Finmeccanica), Carlo Pesenti (Italcementi) and Gianmario Tondato da Ruos (Autogrill). The meeting was introduced by Stefano Alberti (Intermonte) and moderated by Andrea Cabrini (Class-CNBC).
Following this session, in the same morning, were the presentations of Parmalat and Amplifon.
The fourth and final roundtable was held in the afternoon at 2pm: “Best practice in Corporate Governance: the new Italian Corporate Governance Code for listed companies”. Speaking on this subject were: Francesco Rochlitzer (Borsa Italiana) and Jay Clayton (Sullivan & Cromwell); moderated by Giampaolo Trasi (Banca IMI).
