Date 17/02/2005

Thailand Futures Exchange Pcl. (TFEX) has been granted approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to operate as a futures exchange. TFEX will therefore start accepting members this coming March and will hold an exclusive seminar on Feb.18 for brokerage firms interested in taking part in the futures business. Also, there will a special training program conducted by experts from one of the world’s leading universities specially held for top financial institutions’ executives on March 8-11, 2005.

The Managing Director of TFEX, Mrs. Kesara Manchusree, announced the progress being made on TFEX’s operations. TFEX was officially granted approval on Feb.11 by the SEC to operate as a futures exchange. In addition to this important approval, the Thailand Clearing House Co., Ltd. (TCH) was also granted approval to operate as a clearinghouse for futures contracts.

“TFEX will be ready to accept member companies beginning in March 2005 onwards. Securities companies interested in the futures market will be able to acquire valuable information on the futures market at a special seminar on February 18, 2005 entitled “Business Opportunities in the Thai Futures Market”. The morning session, from 8:30 – 11:30 hrs., will be held at the Sangvian Indaravijaya Auditorium in the SET Building, and the afternoon session, from 13:00 – 17:00 hrs., will be held in Meeting Room 3 – 4, of the adjoining Queen Sirikit National Convention Center,” Mrs. Kesara said.

The morning session will be a great opportunity for local operators to exchange and share their views with leading foreign operators, including JP Morgan Futures and KGI Managed Futures. The afternoon session will be held by the SEC in conjunction with TFEX and TCH to answer all inquiries about brokerage licensing and how to become members of TFEX and TCH. This session should help the people involved become more confident in growing with TFEX.

TFEX will hold two exclusive seminars on March 8-9, 2005, and March 10-11, 2005 for top executives of securities companies and financial institutions intending on becoming TFEX members. The seminars will be conducted by experts from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business who have expertise both in the theory and practices in overseas futures markets.

“This program will be exclusively held for top executives, so that they can gain a deeper comprehension about the individual instruments and the futures business as well as other related topics, such as operations and risk management. These topics are essential for leaders of organizations, such as the CEOs. Therefore they should definitely not miss this opportunity.

“So far, the securities companies and other operators in the market have shown great interest in participating in our seminars and training program. We’re overwhelmed that the development of the futures market has been so well accepted. This enthusiasm by the prospective participants should reinforce the successful development of the futures market in Thailand,” Mrs. Kesara concluded.
