Thailand: All mai-Listed Firms Participate In e-Dividend Program, Enabling Shareholders To Receive Dividends Through Bank Transfers In April

Date 21/03/2005

President of the mai (Market for Alternative Investment), Mr. Vichate Tantiwanich, said that: “Presently all 24 companies on the mai have joined the e-Dividend payment program provided by the Thailand Securities Depository Co., Ltd. (TSD). This enables all 20,000 shareholders of the mai-listed companies to receive their payments through direct bank transfers when these companies pay out their dividends.

“The mai has actively promoted participation in the e-Dividend program and the feedback has been quite good, as the companies see the service will benefit them in helping reduce problems and expenses. On the shareholders’ side, the e-Dividend service helps them to receive their dividends more quickly and conveniently, and without any additional costs. The listed companies had received requests from shareholders asking them to join the e-Dividend program so that the shareholders will get their dividends transferred directly to their back accounts,” Mr. Vichate said.

Presently 20 companies on the mai have announced their dividend payments worth a total of THB589.71 mln. (approx. USD14.74 ml.). These payments represent a 5.41% dividend yield.

TSD President Mrs. Nongram Wongwanich stated, “It is good to see that all mai-listed companies realize the benefits in the program and have decided to participate. The mai has been actively promoting to its listed companies to join and we finally have them all joined up.

“Joining the e-Dividend payment program is an important step in benefiting the shareholders. Nearly 80% of all listed companies on the SET are already taking part in the program.

“The TSD will continue to promote greater participation in the e-Dividend payment program, to benefit all shareholders of listed firms. Recently, the TSD signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Krung Thai Bank Pcl., Bank of Ayudhya Pcl., and Siam City Bank Pcl. so that the customers of these banks can use our service without having to submit any further applications. The banks’ customers will, starting from this month onwards, receive documents notifying them about the e-Dividend service and encouraging them to join,” Mrs. Nongram concluded.
