SET President Pakorn Peetathawatchai said SET has enhanced the Thai capital market toward continuous and concrete sustainable development to benefit all sectors in line with SET’s vision ‘To Make the Capital Market Work for Everyone’. SET has encouraged listed companies to participate in DJSI assessment and the increasing number of Thai listed companies with outstanding sustainability performance reflects their determination and priority. Significantly, seven out of the 21 companies earned the best sustainability score, the second highest number in the world after the United States, and most of them are listed on industry groups which play a pivotal role and are the main forces in driving the country’s economy.
“Incorporating sustainability into business operations not only creates positive impact on the society and environment but also strengthens and enhances business potential even at the time of crisis. Notably, concerted efforts and determination of all sectors in the capital market have contributed to the continuous increase in number of Thai listed companies selected into DJSI, resulting in ASEAN’s top inclusions and the world’s second highest number of industry leaders. Moreover, the achievement also reflects that today business operators center on integrating environment, social and governance (ESG) aspects into their operations while delivering healthy operating performance.Being components of the DJSI will enhance the attractiveness of Thai listed firms among both local and foreign investors.
SET is certain that sustainable investment will become the world’s mainstream investment in the near future as financial institutions, institutional investors and credit rating agencies have placed importance on and applied sustainable concept to create products and services through information provision, valuation and risk management approaches that cover economic, social and environmental dimensions. Promoting business development with sustainability growth and responsible investment is SET’s priority task and challenge against the backdrop of the changing global situations at present,” added Pakorn.
