Thai Bourse’s Mutual Fund Fair Warmly Welcomed By Investors

Mutual Fund Fair@Siam Paragon, during July 8-11, received great attention from investors. Over 7,000 participants joined the event, with approximately 3,000 transactions worth a total of THB972 million (approx. USD30.37 million) made, almost double from 2009 where the transactions made worth a total of THB505 million (approx. USD15.78 million). The rising value resulted from investors’ increasing interest in mutual funds investment and new funds launched, which received great attention from institutional and retail investors, revealed SET Group Head, Markets, Kesara Manchusree.

The fair was organized by Association of Investment Management Companies (AIMC), The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and asset management companies.

Investors were interested in foreign investment funds (FIFs) the most, with 656 transactions made, worth a total of THB336.24 million (approx. USD10.50 million). They were followed by fixed income funds (FIXs), with 632 transactions made, worth a total of THB304.63 (approx. USD9.51 million); long-term equity funds (LTFs), with 502 transactions made, worth a total of THB 33.38 million (approx. USD1.04 million); and retirement mutual funds (RMFs), with 435 transactions made, worth a total of THB32.53 million (approx. USD1.02 million). There were also 772 transactions in other funds, worth a total of THB265.52 million (approx. USD8.30 million).

“Mutual Fund Fair@Siam Paragon was held for the sixth time and has proven to be a success, as the total transaction number and value increased every year. Investors are paying more attention to the investment policies of funds than before, and considering these policies when making their own long-term investment decisions. This fair is another SET activity to build investment culture through savings, create value investors, which will result in a strong Thai capital market development,” concluded Ms. Kesara.
