FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index:

Thai Bourse To Offer FTSE SET Index Series From April 2

Date 02/04/2008

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) is providing data on FTSE SET Index Series (FTSE SET) and index constituents on www.set.or.th and www.settrade.com from today (April 2).

FTSE SET, which is comprised of six indices, is a collaboration between SET and FTSE International, offering local and foreign investors greater product variety, SET President Patareeya Benjapolchai said.

“The selection of FTSE SET securities places importance on free-float and liquidity screening. The indices are also free-float adjusted and classified by using the industrial classification benchmark (ICB) standard, a transparent and internationally-recognized calculation methodology. This initiative will promote the development of new value-added and attractive financial products in the future and move us towards a more complete index family in the Thai market,” Ms. Patareeya explained.

Initially, FTSE SET indices will be comprised of:

  • A tradable index-- FTSE SET Large Cap—made up of the top 30 companies on the SET Main Board ranked by full market capitalization, and meeting eligibility requirements

  • Five benchmark indices:
    • FTSE SET Mid Cap Index, comprised of firms within the top 90% by full market capitalization on the SET Main Board
    • FTSE SET Small Cap Index, comprising companies in the top 98% by full market capitalization on the SET Main Board that are not large enough to be constituents of the FTSE SET Large Cap Index or FTSE SET Mid Cap Index
    • FTSE SET Mid/small Cap Index, consisting of all firms in the FTSE SET Mid Cap Index and FTSE SET Small Cap Index
    • FTSE SET All -Share Index, comprised of companies within the top 98% by full market capitalization on the SET Main Board
    • FTSE SET Fledgling Index, consisting of the 2% of companies on the SET Main Board, that are not included in the FTSE SET All-Share Index

All indices in this series use February 29, 2008 as their base date, starting at 1,000.00 points. Historical statistics for these indices are available and stretch over 10 years, from Jan. 1, 1997 to the present.

The constituents of FTSE SET will be reviewed in June and December each year by the Index Advisory Committee, made up of representatives from SET, FTSE and industry practitioners. Their job is to ensure that selections, reviews and applications are transparent and fit the market conditions.

“FTSE SET information will available along with the current SET series, including intraday real-time updates. Eventually, SET and FTSE will consult with capital market practitioners and survey investor demand locally and overseas, with a view to launching other series,” Ms. Patareeya added.
