Thai Bourse To Hold Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony For New Headquarters

Date 04/10/2011

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) will hold a foundation stone laying ceremony on October 19, 2011 for its new head office at Ratchadapisek Road, Din Daeng, Bangkok. The ceremony will be presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

Located on 0.85 hectares of land, the new building will have 59,400 square meters of office space and the construction is expected to be completed in 2013.
“It is a great honor for us that Princess Sirindhorn will officiate at the foundation stone laying ceremony for our new head office. The SET has been playing a major role in continuously developing the Thai economy. The exchange offers securities trading service,   provides multiple fund-raising channels for businesses to encourage employment, generates working capital for the economy, and improves the competitiveness of the country, and creates a wide range of products as investment alternatives. In addition, it also educates the general public, students and investors in personal finance and promotes good governance in companies,” said SET Chairman Sompol Kiatphaibool.

“To support the SET’s obligations, the new head office is being built to support all transactions of the Thai capital market by acting as a full-service capital market business center, being the major center of finance and investment, as in many other developing countries,” Sompol said.

Charamporn Jotikasthira, SET President, said: “The new building will be a securities trading center and have activities to promote operations of broker members, listed firms, and associations and other institutions relating to capital market development domestically and abroad. Moreover, it will be a source of education in financial and investment planning for students at all levels and the public.”

This building will be a good model of environmental protection, following the concept of green office building, and is expected to receive gold-level LEED certification by the US Green Building Council, indicating social responsibility in terms of energy-saving, protection against pollution, and environmental friendliness, as well as using international-standard technology.
