Thai Bourse Sponsors Research On Capital Market For 3rd Year

Date 13/06/2013

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET)’s Capital Market Research Institute (CMRI), has sponsored research produced by 15 leading educational institutions to strengthen Thai capital market capability for three consecutive years. This year, the bourse has partnered with the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC) in applying information technology innovations to bring capital market research up to international standards and thus promote sustainable capital market development.

SET President Charamporn Jotikasthira said: “Supporting capital market research that can be implemented in the real world is crucial to develop the Thai capital market.  In 2013, CMRI has continued encouraging a new generation of researchers to produce quality work on the capital market for the third year. During the past two years, this initiative has helped produce 45 quality capital market research projects.”

“Global capital markets and related technological developments have evolved so fast that innovations are always emerging.  Accordingly, CMRI has joined NECTEC in introducing information technology innovations to capital market research. We also exchange data and insights with each other, and develop the quality of our researchers in many ways, thus promoting the continuous development of the Thai capital market and increasing its regional competiveness,” Charamporn added.

NECTEC Director Pansak Siriruchatapong said: “The collaboration between SET and NECTEC is an important step in bringing IT innovations to develop the Thai capital market sector and making it more competitive, especially big data analytics and data security management, which are important for operating businesses.”

For its 2013 sponsorship project, CMRI will give research grants and advise participating researchers through its Clinic for Capital Market Research, where professionals in securities companies, listed companies, asset management companies and the SET will exchange views on Thai capital market practices. To be eligible for funding, each institution must submit two research projects, which must be presented at an annual symposium to be held in February 2014. Projects will be judged by distinguished academics and professionals in capital market organizations.
