The SET Chairman said that the Board appointed a new president immediately upon Mr. Kittiratt’s resignation to ensure a smooth transition. The Board agreed to appoint Ms. Patareeya Benjapolchai as the President of SET. Her term will be for four years beginning June 1, 2006.
Ms. Patareeya is an expert on the securities industry and a very competent administrator. Importantly, she is recognized as a consultative practitioner and an effective communicator, both within SET and with outside parties.
“The Board views Ms. Patareeya as possessing the high caliber required to lead this organization in achieving its goals, and to play a major role in developing the Thai capital market,” the SET Chairman said.
Mr. Vijit expressed his appreciation of Mr. Kittiratt, saying he is a dedicated person and has made an outstanding contribution to the Thai capital market in many areas, including corporate governance, development of member companies, and human resources.
“Moreover he has enabled the Thai exchange to evolve into an integrated market providing a variety of products, such as bonds and derivatives. He has been proactive in developing marketing strategies which have greatly enlarged our investor base. It is because of Mr. Kittirat’s efforts that the Exchange has achieved its current strong public profile. Importantly, he and the Exchange have contributed very significantly to Thai society in both social development and education. Many of the sustainable projects he initiated will continue to grow,” Mr. Vijit noted.
The incoming President, Ms. Patareeya Benjapolchai, 52, received her Bachelor of Accountancy from Chulalongkorn University, and Master of Business Administration from Thammasat University, Thailand. She also completed the Executive Program at University of Michigan, U.S.A. Her career with SET began with the Exchange’s inception in 1975, and so she has more than 30 years’ experience at SET. Her very varied background covers areas such as the supervision of listed companies, research, development and planning, and corporate operation. Her current position is SET Executive Vice-President.
