Thai Bourse Promotes CSR With CSRI Recognition 2013 Awards

Date 07/11/2013

Thailand’s Corporate Social Responsibility Institute (CSRI), under The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), will hold the CSRI Recognition award ceremony for the second year on November 11 to honor and inspire Thai listed companies which have shown that they are committed to continuously operating with social responsibility and are good role models of sustainable businesses.

SET President Charamporn Jotikasthira noted that the Thai capital market was among the top quality securities markets in Southeast Asia. A key part of SET’s long-term plan was to strengthen the Thai capital market’s quality by encouraging companies to balance business with environmental, societal, and governance considerations, so that the firms and society would grow stronger together. Thus, CSRI would hold its award ceremony for the second consecutive year and would grant CSRI Recognition awards to 40 companies committed to operating business with social responsibility. These winners are also eligible to compete for the Best CSR award in the annual SET Award ceremony, to be held later this November.

CSRI Chairman and Chairman of the CSRI Recognition Award’s panel of distinguished judges Chaiyawat Wibulswasdi said: “CSRI encourages the sustainable development of firms in many ways, and companies are increasingly recognizing the importance of CSR to their sustainability. So many companies have clearly improved their CSR efforts over last year, and the judges had a tougher job in selecting the winners. We deeply appreciate the efforts and commitment of all firms in using CSR as a key component of their development strategies.”

CSRI Recognition 2013 will highlight firms prominent in CSR. There will be both general and special awards, which are Most Improved CSR and Rising Star awards. The judging process is similar to that used for the SET Awards, i.e., the judges consider input from surveys, presentations, and interviews. CSRI’s survey covers  environmental, social, and governance issues, in accord with international practice. CSRI aims to use its survey as a tool to evaluate companies seeking to be components of the SET Sustainability Index in the near future.

The distinguished judges for the CSRI Recognition 2013 awards are Chaiyawat Wibulswasdi, Matchima Kunchorn Na Ayuthaya, Pansak Vejanurak, Pipat Yodprudtikan, and Watcharamongkon Benjathanachatr. The event will be held on November 11 in the SET building, Rachadapisek Road, Bangkok.
