Thai Bourse Market Report For November

  • Daily average trading volume up 60 pct y-o-y to USD 1.16 bln

The Stock Exchange of Thailand’s (SET) securities trading volume in November jumped 60 percent from a year earlier, supported by upbeat investment sentiment from recovering key U.S. economic indicators, optimism about resolving the U.S. fiscal cliff, and progress of Greek debt aid. 

Foreign investors were net buyers of Thai shares worth USD 201 million in November. They have bought a net USD 1.75 billion in the first eleven months of this year. The SET main index ended November at 1,324.04 points, having risen 29.13 percent since the start of this year.

Combined average daily trading volume of SET and Market for Alternative Investment (mai) was at THB 35.93 billion (approx. USD 1.16 billion), or up 59.61 percent from a year earlier, while daily trading volume of derivatives was down 0.24 percent from a month ago at 44,322 contracts per day.

Securities

  • Market capitalization of the SET was at THB 11.09 trillion (USD 357.79 billion), up 31.92 percent from the end of 2011, while market valuation of the mai was at THB 124.26 billion (USD 4.01 billion), up 60.72 percent.
  • Forward P/E ratio for the SET was at 14.74 times, up from 14.16 a month ago, while mai’s forward P/E ratio increased to 15.69 times from 15.39 a month ago.
  • Dividend yield of the SET was at 3.36 percent at the end of November, making it Asia’s third highest. It was down from 3.46 percent a month earlier, and mai’s dividend yield was at 1.81 percent.
  • Foreign investors were net buyers, purchasing Thai shares worth a net USD 201 million in November. They accounted for 29.52 percent of the total trading volume in the month.
  • Listed companies raised funds through equity worth a combined THB 13.7 billion in November. Of that, THB 2.28 billion was raised from initial public offerings (IPOs) and THB 11.43 billion was raised from secondary market.

Derivatives

  • Derivatives trading volume dropped 0.24 percent from a month earlier to an average of 44,322 contracts per day, due mainly to fall of SET50 Index Futures, but the amount was up 14.74 percent compared with a year earlier. In the first eleven months, average derivatives trading volume was at 43,972 contracts per day, up 5.41 percent from a year earlier.
