Thai Bourse Holds The 11th Mutual Fund Fair On August 29-30

Date 26/08/2014

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), together with Association of Investment Management Companies (AIMC) and 15 asset management firms, will address mutual fund investment for novice investors via “Mutual Fund Fair” event, under the concept “Simple start, Easy trade”, for retail investors during August 29-30 at SET’s main event hall.

Thailand’s mutual funds have grown continuously. As of August 22, 2014, mutual funds amounted to THB 3.74 trillion (approx. USD 117 billion), up by 21.2 percent from the end of last year. Of that, equity mutual fund accounted for THB 890.85 billion, up 53.55 percent from last year with an average return of 13.73 percent in the first seven months of this year.

SET President Kesara Manchusree said, “The fair, organized for the 11th consecutive year, not only successfully boosts net asset values and unit holders amount, but also encourages new development of products and services for various investors. Most importantly, it has gradually built investment culture among the up-and-coming working people in Thai society. Currently, investors have realized the benefits of equity investment, especially tax-incentive funds -- retirement mutual funds and long-term equity funds --, but they can hardly find time to monitor the stock movement closely. They therefore need capable fund managers to look after their portfolios and generate satisfied returns for long-term investment.”

Voravan Tarapoom, chairperson of AIMC, said, "Investing in mutual funds has become a key choice of financial management among Thais. The mutual fund has been developed and designed as an effective savings tool, gaining increasing popularity these days. Evidently, current investors are knowledgeable about investment, catching up with investment policy by monitoring information and economic outlook. Meanwhile, investment behavior has gradually changed by creating fund allocation and complying with investment discipline constantly. The fair also displays new products and services for novice investors, as well as online trading system, aiming to attract more new investors this year.”

The fair, under the "Let your money work through mutual funds” project, this year showcases more than 150 funds from 15 leading asset management companies. It provides advice from fund firms and intensive seminars featuring investment techniques, inclusive of portfolio management tips from fund experts, as well as investing in tax-incentive funds.
