Thai Alternative Bourse Will Classify Stocks Into 8 Industry Groups

The Market for Alternative Investment (mai), under The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), is planning to classify mai-listed stocks into eight industry groups, enabling investors to analyze information more efficiently. The bourse will announce the list of securities in each group from January 2014 before implementing in January 2015.

mai President Chanitr Charnchainarong, said that the grouping would be by business characteristics, enabling investors to more readily obtain an overall prospect of each industry as a whole and to analyze and compare companies in each group. This increased convenience would help boost the attractiveness of mai securities.

The eight industry groups, with the same definitions as for SET-listed companies, are Agro & Food Industry, Consumer Products, Financials, Industrials, Property & Construction, Resources, Services, and Technology.

“This grouping will make stock comparison easier. Thus, the top 10 mai-listed companies by market capitalization will be classified as follows: Jubilee Enterprise pcl (JUBILIE) will be in Consumer Products; Fortune Parts Industry pcl (FPI), Salee Industry pcl (SALEE), and Universal Adsorbents & Chemicals pcl (UAC) will be in Industrials; Country Group Development pcl (CGD) will be in Property & Construction; Asia Green Energy pcl (AGE), Energy Absolute pcl (EA), and Energy Earth pcl (EARTH) will be in Resources, while E For L AIM pcl (AIM) and Mono Technology pcl (MONO) will be in Services,” Chanitr concluded.

The Exchange will post the list is of securities in each industry group on mai’s website from January 2014.  Posting of sector indices of industry group and related statistics will begin on the first working day of January 2015.
