Market for Alternative Investment (mai), under The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), will classify mai-listed stocks into eight industry groups starting from January 5, 2015, enabling investors to analyze information more efficiently and effectively.
mai President Prapan Charoenprawatt, said that the grouping would be by business characteristics, reflecting overall view of all industries while enabling investors to obtain specific data and information to analyze and compare companies in each group. The industry classification would also benchmark the initial public offering’s prices determination. This enhanced aspect would help boost the attractiveness of mai securities.
“mai has prepared in advance, paving the way for the classification implementation launch. Investors and stakeholders have been informed and educated to ensure that they do understand the real benefits of the industry indices.” Prapan added.
The eight industry groups, with the same connotation definition as those used for SET-listed companies, are Agro & Food Industry, Consumer Products, Financials, Industrials, Property & Construction, Resources, Services and Technology.
The exchange will post the mai 8 industry group indices and list of securities in each industry group on mai's website starting from January 5, 2015. The industry index has a base date of
December 30, 2014, with base value of 100. In addition, key statistics will be provided such as price-to-earnings ratio (P/E ratio), price-to-book value (P/BV ratio), dividend yield, market capitalization, volume trade and value trade.
