Thai Alternative Bourse Promotes Funding Sources For Flood-Hit Small Businesses

Date 22/11/2011

The Market for Alternative Investment (mai), under The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), joins hands with partners to hold a panel discussion “Alternative Funding sources for recovery from floods” to offer various sources of funding for business rehabilitation and provide strategies to help save businesses hit by flood.

Other co-hosts are the mai-listed Companies Association, Money Channel Thai Venture Capital Association, and the Capital Market Development Fund, managed by the SET Group. The event will be held on Wednesday, November 30, on the SET building, 3rd floor, from 01:00-05:00 p.m., with free admission.

“mai realizes that the flood crisis has greatly damaged the corporate sector. About 500,000 small- and medium-enterprises (SMEs) in 39 provinces have been hit by flood, accounting for 17 percent of SMEs nationwide. The post-flood primary obligation of business owners is to rehabilitate their businesses. As venture capital and private equity are alternative funding sources for entrepreneurs, this event will be a channel to enable business owners hit by floods to access these funding sources for rehabilitation. They will also able to get advice from experts to help solve their fund-related problems,” said Chanitr Charnchainarong, mai President.

Sopon Boonyaruttapunth, President of TVCA, said: “Venture capital and private equity can be of great help to business owners, especially during this flood crisis. These two sources are not only funding providers, but also include managerial advices for business owners. They also have chance to meet customers or related-business partners. The investors in venture and private capital are like business partners who share risks and help the business succeed.”
