The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange and Bank Hapoalim today announced the launch of the Poalim Prosperity Index, a new index designed to provide exposure to public companies operating in Israel’s peripheral regions and generating economic activity, employment, and growth in areas located outside the country’s central region.
The index, calculated and edited by TASE is scheduled for launch on September 10, 2026, is comprised of shares of Israeli companies whose registered offices are located in local authorities situated at least 25 kilometers from Tel Aviv and ranked in socio-economic clusters 1–6, according to data published by Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics.
On Index Launch date, the index will include 58 public companies with an aggregate market capitalization of approximately NIS 171 billion. These companies operate across a broad range of sectors, including technology, industry, real estate and construction, commerce, and services, biomed, energy, and financial services. The list of companies included in the index will be updated annually in October. The index composition reflects the strength and diversity of business activity developing outside Israel’s central region, as well as these companies’ contribution to the Israeli economy.
The Poalim Prosperity Index is the first index of its kind on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, identifying and grouping public companies with a significant affiliation to Israel’s peripheral regions. It will enable targeted exposure to companies operating in areas of economic and social importance, alongside broad and representative sector diversification.
The Poalim Prosperity Index is also innovative on an international scale. Its distinctive feature is the use of index methodology as a tool for generating economic impact and improving access to investment in Israel’s peripheral regions. The index is intended to increase exposure to companies operating in these regions. In this way, the power of indices as instruments that direct attention and investment is harnessed to encourage business activity in municipalities with low socio-economic rankings, by enhancing the exposure and accessibility to investors of companies that have Prosperity to locate their core operations there.
Bank Hapoalim’s sponsorship of the index reflects its commitment to strengthening business growth in Israel’s peripheral regions.
The launch of the index stands on TASE's proven capabilities in developing, calculating, and maintaining advanced indices, which serve as the basis for a diverse range of investment products for investors in Israel and worldwide.
Back-test results conducted TASE indicate a robust performance throughout the review period. Since November 2023, the index has delivered a total return of approximately 146%, while demonstrating competitive performance relative to key market benchmarks.
Adi Dauber, Deputy CEO of Bank Hapoalim and Head of the Financial Markets Division: “This new initiative reflects our commitment to strengthening companies across the Israeli economy and helping listed companies gain broader access to the capital market. Sponsoring the index is another innovative capital-market initiative by Bank Hapoalim in collaboration with the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, joining the bank’s previous initiatives such as the distribution of shares as a gift and the market-making model for the bank’s shares.”
Yaniv Pagot, Executive Vice President, Head of Trading, Derivatives, and Indices at the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange: “The Poalim Prosperity Index introduces an innovative model to the Israeli capital market, in which index sponsorship serves as a tool for promoting meaningful economic activity. For the first time, we are using the power of indices not only to measure the Israeli economy, but also to encourage its development in the places where it is needed most. The companies included in the index operate in Israel’s peripheral regions, create employment opportunities, lead innovation, and strengthen the Israeli economy. This initiative by the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, sponsored by Bank Hapoalim, will contribute to promoting business growth in the periphery. The Poalim Prosperity Index demonstrates how diversity in the capital market can be encouraged while creating value for companies, investors, and the Israeli economy.”
