TARP Repayment – Industry Statement From SIFMA

Tim Ryan, President and CEO of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA), today released the following statement after the Obama Administration announced some financial firms would now be eligible to repay borrowed TARP funds:

“The announcement by the Treasury today is a strong signal that the recovery of our financial system is underway.

“The financial industry is focused intensely on the repayment of TARP and a phased reduction of government support, but we recognize this only begins to fulfill our responsibility to the taxpayers. We owe it to the American people to ensure our institutions are engaged in restoring the US economy and work with Congress and the Administration to reform the financial regulatory system to prevent future crises.”
