Taiwan Stock Exchange To Promote Taiwan Capital Market To Japanese Investors

Date 08/03/2016

A group of representatives from the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) will visit Tokyo, Japan from 8-11 March 2016 to promote the Taiwan capital market to Japanese asset management and investment companies. The group will be led by Senior Executive Vice President, Mr. Chao-Zon Yang.

During their meetings with a number of Japan’s major asset management and investment companies, TWSE’s senior representative will highlight the advantages and features of Taiwan’s capital market and illustrate how the TWSE can facilitate their investments in Taiwan. The TWSE expects that it will be able to enhance Japanese investors’ understanding of the Taiwan market and emphasize the investment advantages of its market.

Mr. Chao-Zon Yang, TWSE Senior Executive Vice President, said, “Now is an opportune time to attract more Japanese investment to the Taiwan market given that Japanese investment has grown ten-fold over the last decade. Taiwan’s average dividend yield is also much higher than other markets, a benefit that is compounded by a double tax avoidance pact that was signed by both Taiwan and Japan in November 2015. As of the end of last year, Japanese investment in the Taiwan stock market accounted for 2.55% of total foreign investment, almost double that of 2012 which was 1.30%. We hope to double this figure again to 5% within the next three years.”

The TWSE is dedicated to promoting international linkages and establishing various kinds of cooperation schemes with overseas bourses. Its collaboration with the Japanese capital markets has been progressively expanding, most recently with the listing of three ETFs tracking Japan’s TOPIX index on TWSE in September 2015.

The number of Japan-related products available on the Taiwan market is expected to grow in 2016, while futures contracts tracking Taiwan’s TAIEX index will be listed for the first time on the Osaka Exchange on 19 July 2016. The listing of TAIEX futures in Japan is expected to attract more Japanese investment capital to Taiwan.
