Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation Announces Three Working Saturdays In 2009

The Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation (TWSE) announced that the market will open for trading on three Saturdays in 2009, in light of the Taiwan’s decision to allow a series of extended holidays during that year.

On the three Saturdays clearing and settlement matters will still be conducted in accordance with the relevant TWSE regulations, it stressed.

To offer the public an extended holiday beginning Thursday Jan. 1, 2009, the Taiwan government has announced that Friday Jan. 2, 2009 will be a day off, with Saturday Jan. 10, 2009 designated as the make-up working day.

The local banking industry will follow suit and so will the TWSE.

Another working Saturday has been scheduled on Jan. 17, 2009, because the market will be closed on Friday Jan. 30, 2009 as part of the Lunar New Year holidays, the TWSE said.

The third working Saturday will fall on June 6, 2009. As Friday May 29, 2009 has been designated as a day off to extend the Dragon Boat Festival, and the market will be closed on that day.
