Taiwan Futures Exchange Becomes Full Member Of The World Federation Of Exchanges

Date 12/10/2011

Early this year, the Taiwan Futures Exchange Corporation (TAIFEX) applied for full membership of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE). TAIFEX's application was approved on October 12 by the representatives of member exchanges attending the WFE's 51st General Assembly and Annual Meeting in Johannesburg,South Africa.

Established by European exchanges as a non-profit organization in 1961, the WFE promotes the structured, regulated development of securities markets aimed at better meeting the needs of capital market participants. Originally known as the Federation Internationale des Bourses de Valeurs (FIBV), the organization changed its name to the World Federation of Exchanges in 2001 and began accepting derivatives exchanges and clearing houses as members. In 2002, the International Options Market Association (IOMA) affiliated with the WFE. TAIFEX, which had been a member of the IOMA, became an affiliate of the WFE and has started to attend the WFE's annual meeting since 2003.

Having now become a full member of the WFE, TAIFEX will make use of its participation in the general assembly, working committee and various working groups, as well as its interaction with other members, to share with other exchanges of development experience. This will increase TAIFEX's global visibility, and help to attract foreign investors to Taiwan, increasing trading volumes in the Taiwan futures market.
