Sydney Futures Exchange Signs A Memorandum Of Understanding With The Chicago Board Of Trade

Date 13/10/2004

Sydney Futures Exchange today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Chicago Board of Trade to record the intention of the two companies to work more closely in the areas of product development and distribution.

Specifically the two companies are discussing possible arrangements under which, with the consent of Dow Jones & Company, Inc., CBOT would grant SFE certain sub licenses for the purposes of developing derivative products based on the Dow Jones Industrial Average ® (DJIA).

"Discussions have commenced around the potential for a number of products based on the Dow Jones Industrial Average," said Peter Hiom, General Manager Exchange Business Development at SFE. "The opportunity arises from synergies in the substantial liquidity of CBOT’s DJIA products, and SFE’s capability to develop and distribute new products to it’s customers both domestically and offshore."

He added, "Needless to say, SFE is very happy to be working closely with the CBOT on these projects and look forward to delivering innovative new products to our customers."
