Sydney Futures Exchange Closes Book On New Members As Merger Looms.

The Sydney Futures Exchange (SFE) said on January 19 that it had closed its books to new memberships until further notice. Merger negotiations between the SFE and the Australian Stock Exchange Ltd may lead to demutualisation of the SFE under which it would become a company limited by shares. Permits will continue to be issued in the ordinary course.
