SWX Swiss Exchange: Professor Peter Gomez Proposed As Chairman Of The Board

At its extraordinary meeting held today, the Board of Directors of the SWX Swiss Exchange proposed Prof. Dr. Peter Gomez as its new Chairman. His formal election to the Board will be accomplished by the General Assembly of the SWX Swiss Exchange Association on 5 May 2006.

Prof. Dr. Peter Gomez was rector of the University of St. Gallen from 1999 through 2005, where he introduced the Bologna reform process. Today he heads the Executive School of Management, Technology and Law at the University of St. Gallen as its founding dean, and is a director of the Institute of Management. He will continue in those posts, albeit at a reduced rate of work.

Jacques de Saussure, Chairman ad interim of SWX, commented on the election proposal by stating: “We are pleased that, after a careful selection process, we can propose to the General Assembly a renowned business economist with a proven track record in entrepreneurialism. As a strategic thinker, Prof. Gomez is ideally prepared to balance the multifaceted interests of all stakeholders in a securities exchange with self-regulatory competency.”
