In September 2006, turnover on SWX and virt-x amounted to CHF 141.7 billion, 22 % higher than in August. Compared to September of last year, trading activity increased by 12.5 %. Particularly gratifying was the turnover in exchange traded funds (+62.8 %) and international bonds (+89.4 %). CHF bonds, on the other hand, were less actively traded than in August (-26.1 %). During September, the share indices hit historical highs, with the blue chip SMI® finishing the month at 8,425.9. Already on 27 September, the SMI® had exceeded the previous all-time closing high of 8,412 recorded on 21 July 1998. The broad-based SPI® also ended the month at a record level.
