SWIFT Appoints New Chief Technology And Chief Operations Officers - Craig Young Appointed As Chief Technology Officer - Marcel Bronmans Appointed As Chief Operations Officer

Date 12/01/2015

SWIFT announces the appointment of Craig Young as Chief Technology Officer and Marcel Bronmans as Chief Operations Officer. Both Young and Bronmans will sit on SWIFT's Executive Committee and report directly to CEO Gottfried Leibbrandt.

The two new appointments mark a reorganisation in SWIFT's IT and Operations division, following the retirement of Chief Information Officer, Mike Fish. The reorganisation is designed to bring the company’s IT development and operational activities together in the two new divisions in order to maximise effectiveness and efficiency in these key disciplines. Fish announced his intention to retire in June 2014, and will be departing from SWIFT at the end of January 2015, once the handover and reorganisation have been successfully implemented.

"Together with the Board's Human Resources Committee we conducted a thorough internal and external search process and I have every confidence that Marcel and Craig will successfully lead the functions building on our proven record," said Leibbrandt.
"I am extremely grateful to Mike for his contribution to SWIFT. He has steered SWIFT's ITOPs function through a period of intense change, meeting a number of technological challenges. Mike has been instrumental in building our strong reputation and record of consistent operational excellence and in ensuring we never veered away from our core Failure is Not an Option (FNAO) mission."

Young, who will take up his position on February 1, joins SWIFT from Verizon Communications in New Jersey. Young spent over 20 years at Verizon, rising to his most recent position as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer in 2013. A senior technology leader who has a proven track record of delivery at significant size and scale, Young has managed teams in excess of 3,000 employees over the course of his career across globally dispersed locations.

Bronmans, who joined SWIFT in 1985, takes up his new role as Chief Operations Officer on February 1. Most recently SWIFT's Chief Risk Officer, he has previously served as SWIFT's Head of Human Resources, Head of Lean Programme, Director of Technology Operations, and in a variety of management positions in the IT and Operations area. As Director of Technology Operations, Bronmans was responsible for the availability of all SWIFT services to the financial community, the initial establishment and build of SWIFT's operating centre in Switzerland, and the establishment of SWIFT's Hong Kong Control Centre.
