Superstar Michael Jackson To Open The Nasdaq Stock Market On Thursday, August 30th

The Nasdaq Stock Market® announced today that superstar Michael Jackson will preside over the Nasdaq Market Open ceremony on Thursday, August 30, 2001 at 9:30 A.M. at its MarketSite building located in Times Square.

Jackson's appearance kicks off his "Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration, The Solo Years" performances at Madison Square Garden on Friday, September 7, 2001 and Monday, September 10, 2001, which are being produced by David Gest.

Nasdaq Vice Chairman Alfred R. Berkeley, lll, and Executive Vice President David Weild, will host a dinner in Jackson's honor at Tavern on The Green following the September 7, 2001 concert. They will be joined by their event co-chairmen: Whitney Houston, Sean Lennon, Yoko Ono Lennon, Liza Minnelli, Leslie Moonves (President & CEO, CBS), Liam Neeson, Veronique and Gregory Peck, and Elizabeth Taylor.

Jeff Bezos, Founder and CEO of Amazon.com (Nasdaq:AMZN) and another co-chairman of the "Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration, The Solo Years" concerts, will preside over the market open ceremony at Nasdaq MarketSite on Friday, September 7, 2001 at 9:30 a.m.

Due to the prime location and broadcast capabilities of Nasdaq MarketSite, this event can be seen by the public and easily captured for broadcast by the media. Details for the Thursday, August 30, market open ceremony are as follows:

  • The Nasdaq MarketSite is located at 4 Times Square, at the corner of 43rd and Broadway. · At 9:30 a.m., Michael Jackson will preside over the market open ceremony from the broadcast studio, which faces the corner of 43rd and Broadway. The broadcast studio has large picture windows to give the public a clear, unobtrusive view into the studio from the street.
  • Nine plasma screens outline the broadcast studio, facing the street, for fans not positioned close to the windows.
  • The MarketSite Tower, which is seven stories tall and is the largest stationary video wall in the world, will feature a live broadcast of the market open ceremony.
  • The entire market open ceremony will be available live on Waterfront loop 1418 from 9:25 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
  • A camera is positioned at the Northwest corner of 43rd & Broadway will tape the crowd standing outside Nasdaq MarketSite. Video will be available live on Waterfront loop 1623.
