Summary Of Trading Activity On TGE Markets In February 2017

• Volume of transactions concluded on natural gas markets in February 2017 totalled 10,160,607 MWh, going up by 18.0 per cent YoY for the spot and forward markets combined.
• In February 2017, the Exchange saw electricity volumes going down by 17.1 per cent against the previous month and 42.4 per cent YoY.

Natural gas

The volume of transactions concluded on natural gas markets in February totalled 10,160,607 MWh, which means a YoY increase by 18.0 per cent. On the Day Ahead and Intraday Market for gas (DAM&IDMg) the volume was 2,492,019 MWh going up by 30.1 per cent. This volume was constituted by 2,129,904 MWh traded on DAMg (increase by 44.2 per cent YoY) and 362,115 MWh on IDMg (decline by 17.5 per cent YoY). Meanwhile, the trade volume on CFIM grew by 14.6 per cent, up to 7,668,588 MWh.

The weighted average price on DAM&IDMg in February stood at 93.11 PLN/MWh, which means that it was higher by 0.06 PLN/MWh than in January. On CFIM, the weighted average price of a contract with delivery in 2018 (GAS_BASE_Y-18) was 87.47 PLN/MWh, i.e. 2.14 PLN/MWh below the quotations of this contract in January.

Electricity

In February 2017, the volume of electricity trade at TGE totalled 6,253,879 MWh, and was lower by 42.4 per cent than in February 2016. On the sport market, the volume dropped on a year-on-year basis by 1.1 per cent to 310 MWh. The year-on-year decline on the Commodity Forward Instruments Market with Physical Delivery (CFIM) was 52.6 per cent with trading volume of 4,126,569 MWh.

In February, the weighted average price of the BASE contract on the Day Ahead Market was 154.75 PLN/MWh going down by 9.29 PLN/MWh below the previous month's level. On the CFIM, the price of the contract with base load delivery in 2018 (BASE_Y-18) averaged 159.20 PLN/MWh, which means a drop by 1.39 PLN/MWh comparing to the quotations of this contract in January.

Property Rights

The volume of electricity property rights traded in February totalled 4,655,584 MWh. This means a decrease by 25.4 per cent comparing to the February 2016 result.

The volume of trade in green certificates alone (PMOZE and PMOZE_A instruments on the Property Rights Market and instruments traded on the CFIM) stood at 1,587,310 MWh lagging behind the February 2016 level by 41.7 per cent. The weighted average price for the PMOZE_A instrument traded during the PRM sessions was 36.38 PLN/MWh, i.e. was lower by 1.60 PLN/MWh than in January.

For the property rights related to energy efficiency (PMEF instrument), the volume traded was 34,357 toe. This represents a YoY growth by 168.4 per cent. The weighted average price during market sessions for this instrument went down by 190.48 PLN/toe MoM, to the level of 1,028.90 PLN/toe.

Guarantees of Origin Register

In February 2017, the volume of transactions concluded in the Guarantees of Origin Register totalled 12,973 MWh, with a weighted average price of 0.55 PLN/MWh. 

New participants 

At the end of February, 71 companies enjoyed the status of the member of the Commodity Market (CM).

As at 28 February 2017, the Certificate of Origin Register maintained by Towarowa Giełda Energii had 3061 members with 42 of them joining in the month of February.

There are 273 entities registered as the members of the Guarantees of Origin Register.
