Summary Of November 2009 Activities At TOCOM

Tokyo Commodity Exchange today announced that November trading volume averaged 137,489 contracts per day, up 27.5 percent from October 2009. The major contribution to this gain was made by the precious market, where dynamic exchange fluctuations activated trade in gold and its trading volume averaged 69,416 contracts per day, up 37.7 percent from the previous month. On November 26, October 2020delivery gold rallied to the highest level in 26 years at 3,370 yen per gram. Trading volume of gold mini also largely gained by 49.6 percent compared to October 2009 to average 20,584 contracts per day. Platinum recorded the year’s high exceeding 4,100 yen per gram this month and the trading volume averaged 15,828 contracts per day, up 29.9 percent from the previous month.

Rubber recorded the year’s high exceeding 250 yen per gram in November, but trading volume decreased by 11.5 percent from October 2009, accounting for 15,828 contracts.

Open interest on the entire TOCOM markets rallied to the 300,000 contracts level in late November for the first time since October 2008 after falling to the 250,000 level in May 2009.
