StreamBase Unveils Event Persistence™ Roadmap & Performance Milestones For Key Complex Event Processing Capabilities -bStrategy Further Fuels Fastest Performance, Industry-First Historical & Real-Time Storage & Analysis, & Next-Generation StreamSQL™ Progr

Date 20/06/2006

StreamBase Systems, Inc., provider of the industry’s fastest and most powerful real-time and historical complex event processing software, today announced the StreamBase Event Persistence™ strategic roadmap along with further milestones behind the performance of its world-class Stream Processing Engine. StreamBase’s combination of real-time performance, storage, and programmability now empowers enterprises to solve new classes of business challenges by integrating real-time streaming data with the ability to query up to terabytes (TBs) of stored data. This unprecedented unification of current and historical data is fueled by the standards-based next generation query language, StreamSQL™.

The three major components of StreamBase Event Persistence™ & Performance include:

  • Unprecedented 500,000 Real-Time Messages/Second On Single CPU — A recent financial services benchmark demonstrated that StreamBase was able to process and analyze 500,000 real-time messages/second on a single AMD Opteron CPU. This was a factor of six to eight times faster than a competing software package. StreamBase’s proven ability to scale over multiple CPUs further validates this industry-leading performance and capacity to process and analyze more than 1 million messages/second.

StreamBase’s unmatched performance is supported by StreamOptimizer, which dynamically compiles StreamBase applications at run-time, enabling optimal processing and analysis of data and event streams. StreamOptimizer also reduces latency by providing developers with the ability to easily synchronize and combine high-speed sequential operations to always ensure correct parallel processing of data.

Ultimately, these extraordinary performance rates provide the headroom today’s enterprises require in order to continually keep pace with growing data volumes, while also using only a fraction of the systems resources typically required by other alternatives.

“StreamBase ensures that our critical end-user applications operate seamlessly and are always able to process and analyze multiple market data streams at unprecedented performance rates,” said John Leslie, Chief Technology Officer of Wall Street On Demand, a company that specializes in operating services to sell financial content via the web, fax, or email to the top on-line brokerage houses.

  • 30+ Terabytes Unlimited Storage Capacity — StreamBase now offers expanded storage options for all data volume ranges and latency requirements, providing a solution to fit and grow with any enterprise’s dynamic business needs. Organizations can now use StreamBase to query gigabytes (GBs) of data with near-zero latency, or they can also slice and dice more than thirty TBs of data spanning a period of months or years.

This storage flexibility is supported by the new StreamBase Chronicle™ capability, which offers a next- generation high-capacity, high-speed event warehouse. Benchmark tests demonstrate StreamBase Chronicle can query a full year of exchange tick data (1.9 billion rows) in less than one minute, at a rate of 34 million trades/second. Chronicle also scales readily and is available in an Early Adopter Program.

And, because other enterprise systems must also be able to leverage high-volume, real-time data streams, StreamBase’s software offers extended integration with leading middleware including IBM DB2® database software, and IBM’s WebSphere™ MQ e-infrastructure software. StreamBase’s new capabilities to seamlessly integrate real-time events with GB to TB of stored data enable solutions to address a range of challenging problems including algorithmic trading and tick warehousing, fraud prevention, and government intelligence.
  • StreamSQL: Emerging Standard for Unifying Real-Time & Historical Data — To support the varied needs of different developers, StreamBase is introducing a textual version of its next-generation programming language, StreamSQL. Based on SQL, the gold standard for managing stored data across millions of relational databases, StreamSQL extends the standard SQL querying model by enabling processing over time and event-based windows. StreamSQL also unifies the processing of stored and streaming data, allowing developers to use one high-level, extensible language to dynamically query and run computations on a variety of types of enterprise data.

”StreamBase is revolutionizing how today’s enterprises process and query both streaming real-time data and historical data to fuel right-time business decisions. We’re also standardizing how developers build these mission-critical applications with one powerful, yet familiar, language,” said Barry Morris, President and CEO of StreamBase. “Our Event Persistence & Performance strategy is not a one-size-fits-all approach. It’s a comprehensive roadmap that offers new, flexible capabilities to solve the challenges behind growing storage and performance demands, and bridges the analytics gap between real-time and historical data.”

Also announced today at the SIA Technology Management Conference in New York City was StreamBase’s strategic initiative, “The Quest for The Da Vinci Coder,” [See also STREAMBASE ANNOUNCES DA VINCI CODER CONTEST FOR THE MOST TALENTED PROGRAMMERS ON EARTH, June 20, 2006]. Participants in The Quest have the opportunity to download the StreamBase Developer Edition to truly test-drive an enterprise-class complex event processing platform through a fun, interactive, and intellectually stimulating competition.
